Buying the Business in such a great area where People are honest, and your word is your bond. This is what I believe I have won.
My choice to pursue a business was because, along with some luck of “right place, right time”, I saw an opportunity to utilize my knowledge and experience to provide the type of working environment and business I had grown to appreciate. Over the years I have worked with a variety of Companies and their Managers, some great and some not so great. During my time at these businesses, I had recognized two important factors in the “great” Companies and Managers, Trust and Respect. These traits are vital in showing the appreciation of those around you and lead to providing best outcome of individuals abilities. Having respect, being honest and fronting up to your mistakes, I believe should go both ways between all levels of staff and managers. You can learn so much about a person and their work ethic and how they work with those around them. My goal is to lead the growth of my team with appreciation and provide a comfortable trusting environment where they can feel confident in their abilities and providing the best outcome for our customers.
Firstly I have a great ” tight 5″ support team, My Lawyer, Accountant, Bank Advocate, Wife and mentor. Being a first-time owner and learning new things has made me realize the potential I have to support the staff and local Rangiora community. When I brought the business, the previous Owner had put the business in a bad position and the local community was highly affected. I believe that you can grow anything if you are positive and willing to learn. Yes, I have a lot of damaged control to deal with to get the business up to where it was. Having a respect and love of supporting the community, I know it will be awesome again. We learn from our past to grow our future, I feel humble being in this position and loving it every day.
The business name is a big factor as everyone relates it to the old Owner, I have decided to change the branding slightly using the name but in a more positive light by having my name associated to it. It has opened a few doors that were shut but as I have found people talk and I have put myself out there as a happy friendly business owner and there is a change happening, slowly which will be a positive for all concerned.
My parents taught me that you never judge anyone on face value. You respect them and it comes back ten-fold, if not then it was better that you don’t know them. In society I believe that any positive influence you can give someone is the best present you can give from a smile to a friendly handshake. We don’t know how people are feeling and a little positiveness can go a long way. How do we know what people are feeling/ does that give us the right to be mean? Hell no. Love conquers all.
I believe my success can’t be taken judged yet as I am still in the early stages. I know that people talked about me in a positive light and that to me is a success.
Having the Wairua of the staff change from a negative to a positive thinking is my proudest feeling. They say I am going to be rich; I correct them saying if they do a good job and customers come back, then as a Owner I can give the staff the rewards form their hard work. To me money is important, but the little things are for the Wairua of the business is a high priority.
Auto Glazier Jai Mccormick
I have started using processes to ensure everyone is on the same page. My Office Ladies will be equipped to do each other’s role, my glaziers are fully qualified with over 30 years plus experience in the trade. Having a process is valuable in providing a service second to none.
These have been mainly word of mouth to the staff from jobs completed.
Being able to take a chance and growth as a person is my biggest benefit. Having my “tight 5” to ask questions and learning is also my biggest benefit. Having knowledgeable contacts makes my life much easier from good people.
I am currently supporting the local school patrol booklet. I have done the advertising thing which has its rewards and being on the local business group has given me a chance to create a new positive light in the community.
I have a few ideas, but my main focus is creating a solid fountain with the business. You can’t go hard with knowing that your fountain is solid. I don’t want to create something that I can’t handle as it belittles the business, and you end up going backwards.
Being asked to enter this is the best feeling I can have, as a new owner you feel the world is getting to you, having this makes it seem all worthwhile.
