Business mission and vision:
At the House of Hope our mission is to show every single person who seeks recovery, that there is light at the end of the tunnel. When people reach out for help, they have usually reached rock bottom and their lives are in turmoil and recovery doesn’t always seem possible so it is our jobs at House of Hope to show people that recovery is a possible for every single person. Our motto at The House of Hope is that “where the is life, there is hope”. My vision for House of Hope is to continue providing this program to people and to hopefully show more people the beauty of recovery.

“The House of Hope is a private drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility based in a rural suburb of Auckland. At House of Hope, we believe in treating people with love and respect and providing individual care. We believe that when people are shown love and respect they are able to start showing themselves the love and respect they deserve. ”

I went through a rehab facility myself, and from my experience I felt like there was a lack of individual care. I never want anyone accessing our service to feel like they are just a number on our books. At The House of Hope we truly care about our clients lives. We provide everyone with an aftercare service because I know that the real work starts when you leave the facility. We want to make sure that there is support for everyone once they leave the facility and go back into the real world.
I decided to start this business because I knew that there was a lack of addiction services and I knew that people were desperate for help. In my mind there was no other option but to start The House of Hope. I had no idea if it would work or if I would reach the people that truly needed help, I am so grateful that I have.
When I decided to start The House of Hope, I was working in a corporate setting in a position that was a real risk to my own recovery. I did not have the money to start a business so I knew there would be some compromises to be made. I discussed the idea of opening up my own facility with my wife and my family, and I can tell you that to start with, they thought I had lost my mind. My wife understood my need to start The House of Hope and she became my biggest support person. We opened up The House of Hope in our family home and myself and my wife couch hopped with family members for 9 months to save money and get everything that was needed at The House of Hope. It wasn’t an easy journey starting The House of Hope, but it has been the best thing I have ever done.
If there is one thing that I learn’t very early on in my own recovery was that my recovery came first. Whether you have been in recovery for 1 year or 10 years, working on your own recovery never stops so I think a big challenge for me was finding a way to manage my own recovery while helping others seeking recovery.
Starting The House of Hope was never going to be a comfortable process for myself or my wife. We sacrificed our home and everything inside of it, for the first time in our married lives, I was not able to provide my wife with a home of her own, but we knew that our intentions to start this business was right and we knew that if we just keep putting one foot in front of the other, we would eventually reach our dreams of helping those in need.
We have been able to open our second rehab facility and that has been something we are really proud of.
Without a doubt, the thing I am most proud of in my business is the 80 plus people we have been able to support in their journey to recovery.
Doctors, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, yoga and meditation instructors
Majority of my staff are in recovery themselves, I have supported many of my staff in getting their Level 4 Support worker qualifications and their training in mental health is continuous in our business. We also support Unitec by allowing their students to come to the House of Hope to gain practical experience in the field.

Here are a couple of reviews that have been left by clients who have accessed our service: House of Hope is amazing!! When I arrived at the house I was broken. Addiction had taken over my life completely and was unmanageable. Within hours of arriving I knew I was in the right place. Kobus and the team genuinely cared for my well being. After 30 days I can honestly say that it has been life changing and although my recovery path will always be ongoing, I am extremely thankful to the whole team who have set me up with a solid foundation. I call them family now!

Such an amazing place for those that have hit rock bottom. There is no judgement, they only care about your well being. When I first arrived I was so broken and thought beyond help, but they made me feel like family as soon as I walked through the door. The tools they supply you with are so valuable on your road to recovery. I cannot speak more highly of the staff, they are absolutely amazing and caring and witty. If you need help this IS the place for you. A massive thank you to Kobus and his team for restoring me to sanity and a healthy normal life without addiction. My family also cannot thank you enough.

This is what keeps us going and also tells me that our approach to recovery is working.

There truly is no other benefit to me, other than the fact that I am helping others and making a difference in their lives and their families lives. When you are able to help someone gain recovery, you are not only helping them, but you are helping their whole family. There is no better reward.
We are continuously working with people in the community who need help but are not necessarily able to afford rehabilitation centers.
Every 3 months we sponsor someone who cannot afford to come into the facility and who we have not been able to help gain the funds. We are strong believers in giving back to others.
