Business mission and vision:
We aim to become Richmond’s number one beauty salon, with a reputation based on the quality service we provide to our clients.

“We’re a beauty salon providing our clients with beauty and advanced cosmetic procedure treatments.”

The level of service we offer our clients and our involvement with the community – Through supporting the Nelson Tasman Hospice.
Last year we were the runners up in the Kiwi Business Heroes Awards
My sister and I have always wanted to go into business together – A beauty salon seemed like the natural choice given she (Kelly) is an internationally qualified beauty therapist and I’ve got a bachelor of commerce majoring in accounting & marketing. We have always completely “got” each other when it comes to business – Unlike most siblings.
COVID-19! …It delayed our opening but definitely not our spirit or drive to succeed. Also raising our capital investment because neither of us had enough savings to get our start-up off the ground, but we persevered and found a way.
More recently we’ve experienced staffing issues due to a lack of qualified beauty therapists in the region, which is a direct effect of Covid-19 and the restrictions on movement around/in and out of the country. This has significantly impacted the workforce and thus our ability to replace an outgoing employee. Due to being a small team (of 2) this is significant as we have been snowed under with bookings but only have one employee to carry out the work. Thinking outside the box Jade (one of our salon’s co-owners) made the brave move of leaving her place of employment to jump onboard at the salon (after recently having a baby) to re-train as a nail technician in order to keep the business ticking along.
As we mentioned in our application last year – We went through a long string of hurdles before even opening the doors of our salon due largely to the Covid-19 pandemic…Which has still been wrecking havoc for our business this year with a further lock-down. Due to the close-contact nature of our business, this meant we were unable to re-open until Nelson was in alert level 2. Mine and Kelly’s approach to business as a whole is “You’ve got to be ready for whatever is thrown at you” – I think this mindset is what enables us to overcome such hurdles and never feel defeated, because we’ve definitely been tested many a time in the short 17 months we’ve been open. . It’s like Mum always says “If it’s easy, it’s not worth having.”
I guess it depends on how you measure success? Personally for us, one of the things we’re most proud of has nothing to do with financial success, but giving back to an amazing organization/group of people who helped care for our wonderful Nana before she passed away in November last year – The Nelson Tasman Hospice. The work we do for them far supersedes any financial success we’ve had in our eyes.
As mentioned before our work with the Nelson Tasman Hospice, and also our ability to “keep on keeping on” even when times are tough – Something that as sisters we know we can do because we’ve got each other’s backs.
We have many – Our Salon skincare brand is the gorgeous Sothys range which is made in France. Our team and clients absolutely LOVE it. The other is Lola Lee, the nail brand we use. We we’re thrilled to become the Lola Lee Educators for the Nelson, Marlborough & Tasman regions at the end of last year – about 5 months after opening our salon.
As mentioned above, our salon manager is now the Lola Lee Educator for the Nelson, Marlborough & Tasman region and now trains others in nail enhancements which has been a great experience. Our team have also been on skincare training days with Sothys as well as training for new treatments before being able to offer them in the salon, most recently dermaplaning.

We have so many on both our facebook page and google, and we appreciate everyone who has written us one as they’re helping us get the word out about our salon.

Reviews like this warm our hearts and remind us how important our services are to our clients:

“Pure Opulence Day Spa is a gorgeous place to relax and be pampered. So welcoming. Beautiful classy interior and lovely beauty therapists who are very knowledgeable in the many treatments on offer. The products used are very high quality and well researched by the wonderful senior beauty therapist and Manager, Kelly Gosling.” – Linda A

Helping our clients. Whether it be improving the appearance of their skin so they can FINALLY feel comfortable and confident in themselves, or giving them a beautiful set of nails for their birthday evening or an upcoming event…Seeing their appreciation for what we do is the best reward! We help our clients and they support us…We couldn’t ask for a better relationship.
We support the Nelson Tasman Hospice in various ways throughout the year. The Nelson Tasman Hospice is a cause dear to our hearts because their team were beyond amazing coming around to assist in looking after our amazing Nana last year when she was terminally ill before her passing.

Their team are angels on earth, so we love giving to them any chance we get. Over the last year this has included:

1) Giving their team and patients beauty vouchers for free treatments every month. This is to help give their patients a little “pick me up” amongst the heart-breaking ordeal they’re going through, and likewise for the Hospice workers – They are WONDERFUL people and deserve to be shown some appreciation too.

2) We did a fundraiser at our “1 year in business” Birthday Celebration. We invited our clients to enjoy drinks and nibbles at the salon and held a raffle with all proceeds going to the Nelson Tasman Hospice. We were thrilled to raise $500 at this fundraiser for Hospice.

3) We most recently donated 100 boxes of tissues to the Nelson Tasman Hospice’s “Hankies for Hospice” appeal which is currently still going, where people are asked to donate a box of tissue or two to Hospice for their patients & their families to use throughout the year.

We have also over the past year offered up prizes for quiz nights and the likes for local groups around the region.
We would like to thank you for the opportunity to enter this competition for a second year and appreciate everyone who chooses to vote for us – You’re all amazing.
